Heroku created a frictionless environment that made it easy to develop, test, and deploy applications to environments without maintenance headaches. Heroku also made it possible to scale up and down automatically once you went live. It heralded a future where devops and operations were optional investments. I loved the Heroku developer experience; Heroku inspired me to do what I do today. Heroku is considered a platform-as-a-service in the public cloud ecosystem. A platform-as-a-service sits on top of infrastructure-as-a-service and provides deep integration points to leverage the underlying infrastructure.
